The original Pride of the Prairie St.Nick is 78 stitches x 78 stitches. I wanted to stitch mine as an oval that was 62 stitches x 70 stitches. I used MSPaint to draw an oval that was 62 pixels by 70 pixels. I used that oval to figure out how many stitches should be on each row and then marked up an enlarged copy of my pattern.
I stitched everything inside the red oval as indicated on the pattern, except the red and green border and the star shape. I chose to stitch them blue.
Theoretically I should have been able to stitch from the marked up pattern, but I knew from experience that for me it would be easier to cut away the red part and stitch from that trimmed pattern.
